At present, about 5 pairs of high speed trains run between Beijing and Hohhot, taking around 2 - 3.5 hours to finish the travel. 5 normal speed overnight sleeper trains are operated from Beijing to Hohhot, and 8 run for the opposite direction with a duration of 9 - 10 hours.

North Railway Station is in Xicheng District which is near Beijing Zoo and is about 10 kilometer to downtown Beijing.
By subway: line 2, line 4 and line 13
By bus: 16, 21, 26, 87, 305, 331, 375, 387, 438, 620, 651, 632, 691, 693, Night bus line 14
Qinghe Railway Station is north to the city center and is 11 kilometers (7 miles) to North Railway Station.

It is closer to the city center compared with East Station. From here, one can easily reach attraction sites nearby and take airport shuttle bus to Baita Airport.

Located at the east side of the city, it is close to Baita Airport. A few buses are available here.

If you travel by rail, especially by overnight sleeper trains departing in the evening and arriving in the morning, you can save one-night accommodation fee and the day time. It is suitable to budget travelers. High speed trains have been the choice of most people which take less time and has a moderate cost.
As an alternative, passengers can also travel by flight. It takes about an hour for this journey, but there are only about 5 direct flights per day and flight ticket costs more than rail ticket. Weather change can easily lead to flight delays, which may cause a waste of time.

00ReplyIt is not allowed to take the bike on the train directly, even the folded one. But you can take it as a checked luggage.

00ReplyThe hostel is much closer to Hohhot Station, about 1.5km. If you like, you can go by walking. It should be about 20min walking. And in fact this maybe the most efficient way as you hardly find a taxi for this short distance trip.

ReplyIf I reach Beijing Station at 4:27am, can I stay in the station for K3 until 7:27am?
I will be taking K56 and arrive at 4:27am, the time is enough for K3 right?

00ReplyYou need to be one hour in advance for K3 trip, so 3 hours between should be enough. The railway station work 24 hours a day, so it is fine to stay there. By the way, you may consider to take the train K3 from Jining South instead of Beijing as well which is closer to Hohhot.
