Zhangjiajie Weather in February

 February is late winter in Zhangjiajie. Although the temperature shows an upward trends from early to late month, it is still a little cold most of the time. During the daytime, the highest temperature often hovers between 5-15 degrees Celsius (41-59℉). In late February, the temperature occasionally exceeds 20 degrees Celsius (68℉), thus relatively pleasant. However, the day and night temperature difference is huge. At night, the lowest temperature drops to 4°C (39°F) on average. Sometimes, it even drops below 0℃ (32℉). With the higher humidity, you may feel even colder. So remember to keep warm when going out at night.

Zhangjiajie Forest Park in February

 In February, Zhangjiajie receives a little rainfall, averaging 59 mm. When it rains, it is often light rain. As a result, there is no need to worry too much about rainfall disrupting your plan.

However, in high-altitude scenic spots, it is prone to rain unpredictably and the weather forecast may not be accurate. If you go to those places, it is best to bring an umbrella whatever the weather forecast tells.

 The sun rises late but falls a little early at around 18:16 - 18:37 in Zhangjiajie in February. Although the daylight length increases gradually, the average is only 11.2 hours. Because of the short daytime, it is suggested not to arrange too many attractions in 1 day and go down from the mountains before it gets dark.

To stay warm in the cold climate, for the upper, you need to wear thermal underwear matched with a sweater and a down coat. If you think they are too heavy and influence your moves, then wear a three-in-one winter coat plus a thermal underwear and a winter vest to keep warm.

For the lower, a single pair of winter outdoor pants is not enough. You’d better wear woolen long johns inside. For your feet, you need long socks and winter hiking shoes or snow shoes.
 1. Gloves, scarf, and hat - it is windy on mountain summit and these items can help you avoid catching a cold;
2. Umbrella/ raincoat in case of rain or snow;
3. Thermal cup with hot water, heating pad - they help warm up your body. 

Tip:
Between summit and mountain foot in Zhangjiajie, the temperature difference can reach 8-10℃(46.4 - 50℉), it’s advised to wear layers so that you can adjust your clothes conveniently based on temperature change.1. In Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, you can admire not only the stone forests but also yellow and pink plum blossoms, specifically in Ten Miles Gallery and Huangshizhai. These flowers often start to bloom in the middle of February. However, February is not yet in spring, and other natural scenery is generally bleak, not as beautiful as in other seasons.

2. As it may snow this month, you can appreciate the hard rime or snowy scenery on Tianmen Mountain or in Zhangjiajie Forest Park. Besides, if there is rain or snow, you will have a chance to see the sea of clouds on Tianmen Mountain and Tianzi Mountain.

3. If you are sensitive to the coldness, some indoor activities are needed, especially at night. For example, Zhangjiajie is famous for many shows like Tianmen Fox Fairy Show, Charming Xiangxi and Eternal Love in Zhangjiajie. In addition, going to local restaurants to taste delicious Zhangjiajie food is also a good way to warm your body. In downtown area and near the east gate of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, there are many restaurants where you can taste authentic Zhangjiajie Sanxiaguo Hot Pot.

4. February is the travel off season, except during the Chinese New Year holiday. You can enjoy a less-crowded traveling experience without queueing a lot, and a lower price of flight tickets.
 1. In 2026, the Chinese New Year holiday falls from February 16th to 23rd when many scenic areas usually hold various celebration activities. If you are interested, come here then. But, you need to reserve tickets in advance and be prepared for crowds as the holiday is also the travel peak period.

2. It may fog heavily in February, when the visibility turns very low. For example, when the fog is so thick that you can’t see Tianmen Cave even if you are just standing at its foot. So check weather forecast is very necessary. 

3. If it snows heavily, the roads on mountains are icy and slippery, making traveling there unsafe. Put a pair of crampons in your suitcase in case you need it. What’s more, heavy snow may lead to road closures in some sections of the scenic area, and some scenic spots would also be temporarily closed.
