Hongkou District, under the jurisdiction of Shanghai City, is located in the northeast of Shanghai. It connects Yangpu District on the east, Zhabei District on the west, Baoshan District on the north, Pudong New Area and Huangpu District on the south. The territory of Hongkou District was originally the beach of the East China Sea. There were 50 large and small rivers in history. North Sichuan Road, 1933 Old Millfun and Lu Xun’s Former Residence are good places to visit.

As an old slaughter house in the past, the whole building is in old Roman Basilica Domus style. And its basic structure of round outside but square inside also coincides with Chinese Feng Shui. Unique buildings featured the covered bridge and beamless structural design are also worth visiting. Travelers can walk on the covered bridge, take photos and have a taste of delicious food nearby.

The metro lines including 3, 4, 8, 10, 12 are in service every day and the bus lines almost extend to all directions. The taxi charges CNY 14 for the first 3 km, CNY 2.4/km for no more than 10 km, and CNY 3.6/km for subsequent distance. It costs CNY60-70 from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, CNY170-180 from Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

Will be staying in Hongkou/Bund locality for a couple of weeks. What would be the best and easiest bank in which to change foreign (AUD) currency? Thanks for help.

China Merchants Bank (Bund Branch) at No.16, Zhongshandong 1st Road, Huangpu District and Bank of China (Shanghai Branch) at No.23, Zhongshandong 1st Road, Huangpu District are recommended to change money.

international credit cards and cash (RMB) in Shanghai?
Will be staying in Hongkou locality in December for a few weeks. Will international credit cards and cash be readily accepted in supermarkets, restaurants, bars etc?

Cash can be accepted in all the places but international credit cards can generally only be used in some large malls, high-end restaurants, and supermarkets.

About 800 meters from your hotel, there is a Branew Laundry which is located at 40 meters southeast of Henan Middle Road auxiliary Road and South Suzhou Road intersection .
