Guangzhou - Chongqing Train

Usually, there are over 25 pairs of trains running between Guangzhou and Chongqing. Among them, nearly 15 pairs of high speed trains run in day time taking 7 – 11.5 hours and around 10 pairs of non-bullet overnight sleeper trains take 18.5 – 31.5 hours.

In addition, there are many direct flights available for your convenience. The flight travel only takes about 2 hours. If you are pressed for time, flight is a good choice. But the flight ticket usually costs more than rail tickets, except in some low seasons.
 Altogether nearly 15 pairs of them are operated on this route between Guangzhou Railway Station/ Guangzhou South Railway Station and Chongqing West Railway Station/ Chongqing North Railway Station. Among them all high speed D types run for a total distance of 1,201 kilometers (746 miles). And 2 pairs of high speed G types run with a different longer route of 1,950 kilometers (1,212 miles). Take the duration and cost into consideration, it is highly recommended to choose a D type for this trip with shorter travel time and lower cost.

Most of them run overnight from/to Guangzhou Railway Station, K502/K504 and K4512 use Guangzhou East Station. In the other side, most of them are operated at Chongqing North Railway Station, while K365/K358 and K835/K837 is at Chongqing West Railway Station which is far from downtown area. North Station is connected with downtown area by subway line 3, line 4, line 10 & Circle Line and city buses and west station by subway line 5 & city buses.

One thing to be noticed is that you'd better purchase a sleeper for the long journey and you are recommended to buy the sleeper tickets in advance because they are in great demands most of the time. With a sleeper, you can have a good rest during the night and then travel around energetically upon arrival.
