Xi'an - Chongqing Train
Up to now, more than 12 pairs of Xi'an - Chongqing high speed trains run daily between Xi'an North Railway Station and Chongqing North Railway Station for a distance of 977 kilometers (607 miles). Duration is 5 - 7 hours and ticket fare for a second class seat is CNY 409 per person at most. Normal speed trains including overnight sleeper trains run for 782/ 794 kilometers (486 - 493 miles), taking 9.5 – 13 hours.

Stations along the way: Zhen'an, Xunyang North, Ankang, Wanyuan, Xuanhan, Dazhou, Quxian, Guang'an, Huaying
K689/K690 and K1573 run between Xi'an South Railway Station and Chongqing North Railway Station. K1002/K1004 runs between Xi'an Railway Station and Chongqing Railway Station. In contrast, Xi'an Railway Station is close to the city center and has convenient transportation around, while South Station in southern suburban area is difficult to reach. Only a few buses are available. Chongqing Railway Station is closer to the city center and passengers can go other places easily from here either by city bus or subway. North Station also has subway and many city buses around.
It is advised to travel by overnight sleeper trains including K689, K1573, and K1002/K1004. Passengers had better purchase a soft or hard sleeper to have a good rest onboard.
Xi'an to Chongqing flights usually take 1.5 hours for a single journey. This is a quite good choice for people who are pressed for time. However, flight delays can easily occur because of changeable weather and air traffic control. In this case, it may waste some time.
In contrast, bullet trains are punctual in most cases and the leg room onboard is wider than that on a flight. Also, if count in the travel time to/from airports and time used for boarding, the total consumed time of high speed trains and flight will be no big difference.
If you are a budget traveler, normal speed train is a preferable option, especially when you choose the overnight sleeper trains including K689, K1573, and K1002/K1004, which depart in the evening and arrive in the next morning. Traveling by any of them can save you the day time and one-night accommodation fee. Also, it costs less, even a soft sleeper berth costs less than an economy class seat on flight.
Xi'an – Chongqing Direct High Speed Railway is promising to commence construction in 2018. This line will run along a different route and when opened, the travel time will be greatly shortened to 3 hours. The designed speed is 350km/h (186 mph).

00ReplyWell, it depends on which train you take as they have different routes. Generally the landforms you will see are mountains, hills, downlands, rivers, flatlands and Yangtze River delta and Yangcheng lake in Kunshan if you take G1976. Remember to book a window seat!!

00ReplyThere used to be direct buses to the scenic area but it is hard to find the bus schedule now so I'm not very sure if it still operated now. If taking a taxi, it takes about 1 hour. The luggage storage service is available in Wulong Station.

The price difference is mainly caused by the running route. These rides with second class seats costing CNY409 run via Chengdu before reaching Chongqing. They run a much longer routes so the price is much higher. For facilities onboard, there is no much difference. It is recommended to choose them with lower price and shorter route.
