Chengdu - Urumqi Train
Currently, only about 1 pair of normal speed trains is traveling between Chengdu Railway Station and Urumqi Railway Station about every other day.
It is a long journey with the running distance of 3, 064 kilometers (1, 900 miles) and it takes about 35 - 35.5 hours for a single trip. The hard sleeper costs CNY 491.5 per person and a soft sleeper costs CNY 775.5.
Currently, no high speed trains operate between the two cities.

Major stations along the way include Deyang, Mianyang, Jiangyou, Guangyuan, Longnan, Zhangxian, Lanzhou, Xining, Zhangye West, Jiuquan South, Jiayuguan, Yumen, Liuyuan, Hami, Shanshan, Turpan. 1. There is only one pair of normal speed train running between Chengdu and Urumqi. To ensure a smooth trip, it is recommended to book the tickets as early as possible as they do sell out.
2. The climate is quite different between the two cities. The temperature in Urumqi is always about 10°C (50°F) lower than that in Chengdu. In addition, when you arrive in Urumqi, it can be very cold in the morning and at night. Make sure you take sufficient warm clothing. What’s more, since it is much drier in Urumqi, the moisturizers are necessary, especially for ladies.
3. If you really want to travel between the two cities by high speed train, two transfers in Xi'an and Lanzhou are needed, this will reduce the total travel time on board to 18.5 - 19.5 hours.
5. The route between Chengdu and Urumqi runs through five provinces, between the southwest and northwest of China. Along the way, you can enjoy a variety of landscapes from continuous mountains and vast plains in the southern regions. When the train travels through northwestern areas, you will see the boundless desert and the Gobi Desert will give you a distinctive experience. Since there are no high speed trains operating directly between the two cities, traveling by air can be your alternative option. The travel time can be shortened but the fares may be a little higher. Generally, it takes from CNY 850 to CNY2, 000 for one economy class seat and with the duration of 3.5 to 4 hours for a single trip. Usually, there are over 5 flights to and from these cities daily.

00ReplyYes, in Lanzhou, but you need to have one night stay in Lanzhou before taking the next high speed ride from Lanzhou to Urumqi, so basically still 2 days.

00ReplyThis is very hard to say. Usually the rides hardly delay but as it is a slow train and a long distance trip, there is a chance that it delays. If you are other connected trips or arrangement, it would be better if you prepare a little more time just in case it happens.

00ReplyYes, the K2058 runs more than 37 hours, and it arrives on the morning of the third day. Flight could be a better choice for it only takes about 4 hours, and sometimes the discount is good.
