At present, only one railway station is in operation in the city: Xining Railway Station.

Xining Railway Station

Located in Qilian District in Chengdong District, Xining Railway Station is an important stop along Lanzhou – Xinjiang High Speed Railway. This station operates both bullet trains to/from Lanzhou, Zhangye, Jiayuguan, Xi'an, and Urumqi, and normal trains to/from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xi'an, Lanzhou, Jiayuguan, Suzhou, Hohhot, Nanchang, Yinchuan, etc.

Can you offer the train schedule between Xining to the Salt Lake?

Our family will take a tour to the Salt Lake, can we take the train?

Yes, the tourist trains are available during travel high season. The schedules are: Xining – Chaka, Y971 08:00/12:02, and the return trip is Y972 17:00/21:12. You will have 4-hour time to enjoy the Salt Lake.

Do I have to change trains at Xining for trip head to Lhasa?

I am also considering about this issue. From what I read online, normally if you booked a direct train (one ticket for whole trip), you do not need to change trains. However, I did read someone says they changed to different ride in Xining which they said is not fit the altitude there better. I am not sure if this is only during winter time or all the time. But anyway, I think it should not be a problem as long as we have our tickets.

Trains run daily from Xining to Lhasa?

I heard the train runs on some certain days only and may stops in winter time. Is this true?

Indeed not all trains runs daily to Lhasa, but from Xining, there are still around 5 rides a day in service. So you can still find a rides and they runs in winter time too!
