How to Get from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to People’s Square & Nanjing Road

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is around 18 kilometers (11 miles) from People's Square and Nanjing Road. Metro line 2 is the most common and popular way from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station to People’s Square and Nanjing Road, which takes 35-45 minutes and costs CNY5. One can also choose metro line 10 but it detours. Bus ride is not very recommended for its inconvenience of transfer and the possibility of traffic congestion. Taxi is also availavle, but it costs most and there may be traffic jam on the way.

 → Get to metro entance on the B1 of Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station followed by the bilingual direction signs.
→ Take metro line 2 to West Nanjing Road, 9 stops, People’s Square (Renmin Guangchang), 10 stops or East Nanjing Road, 11 stops.

As the names indicate, metro stations West Nanjing Road, People’s Square and East Nanjing Road, are close to west part of Nanjing Road, People’s Square and east part of Nanjing Road respectively. One can choose one to get off based on the travel itinerary. 

 → Take metro line 10 to East Nanjing Road, 15 stops.
→ Go out from Exit 7 and you are at the east part of Nanjing Road.

Notes:
1. Metro line 10 detours from Hongqiao Railway Station to East Nanjing Road, taking a longer time.
2. Passengers are on the Nanjing Pedestrian Street after getting off from East Nanjing Road Station. Go west to reach the People’s Square, and continue to walk west to West Nanjing Road.

 → Transfer to bus line 71 from Huangpi North Road to Shaohong Rd, 24 stops.
→ Walk around 500 meters (550 yards) to the west to arrive in the People’s Square.

Notes:
1. Shenhong Road Zhouhong Road stop is alongside the Hongqiao Railway Station to its west.
2. Passengers are not particularly recommended to choose bus ride. In addition to the inconvenience caused by transfer, the duration is relatively long and there may be traffic jams on the way.

 Both south and north pick-up points on the B1 of Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station are available for passengers to choose. South pick-up point is more recommended as it avoids detours and saves money. The time to wait for a taxi may be a bit long, so be mentally prepared in advance.
