If schedule fits, travelers are advisable to choose the rides by the following order: Z type, T type and K type as Z type has fewest stopovers and fastest speed.
They mainly run along 3 different routes:
Z69/ Z70 and Z21/ Z22 follow almost the same route as high speed type and generally cost less time on the way.
K609/ K610 runs for 7 to 7.5 hours for the 398 miles (641 kilometers) trip. Though a little longer for duration, the rides can be a good option since they depart late in the night and arrive the next early morning. Overnight types like this can save hotel cost and time for next day visiting. In addition, there are flights available between which takes around 1.5 hours. However, since the airports in both cities are farther from the city center compared with railway station, the duration may not differ a lot from high speed ride if you take the transfer time to/from airports into consideration.

Yes, 1 hour is fine as long as you have paper tickets for the second trip in hand. You would need to collect your paper tickets in advance.

The ticket price is for one way trip only. I saw there is business class lounge in Beijing West Station. If you hold a business class tickets, you should be able to use it. Not sure if there is advanced boarding service.

Do I need one ticket or two?
If I need to make a stop at Taiyuan and then continue the trip to Linfen, what is the minimum time needed for stop? Also, I need to buy one ticket or two different tickets for this trip?

You would need 2 different tickets, one from Beijing to Taiyuan and one from Taiyuan to Linfen. The minimum time for a transfer should be 30min I think, but not sure how long you need to stop there. Anyway, with a paper ticket in hand, you still need to reach the station at least 30min in advance for security check and boarding process.
