The railway length between Hanoi and Hue is about 690km (429 miles), the train journey is about 14 hours. Hue is in the south of Hanoi, about 1,100km (683 miles) north of Ho Chi Minh City, and about 80km (50 miles) to Danang. As an ancient capital of Vietnam, history brings the city with UNESCO World Cultural Heritage like The Imperial Palace of Hue and Forbidden Purple City of Vietnam. If you are a history enthusiast, or simply love discovering Southeast Asia cultures, this former royal capital could not be missed on your travel list. The city represents a complex of monuments, tombs and pagodas that attract visitors from all over the world.

There are 5 pairs of trains between Hanoi and Hue each day. SE1, SE3, SE5, SE7 and SE19 for Hanoi to Hue and SE2, SE4, SE6, SE8 and SE20 for Hue to Hanoi. The cheapest tickets are hard seats on SE5, SE7, SE6 and SE8, these four trains depart on early mornings or even midnight, and you will send the whole day on the train, so the soft and hard sleeper berths on other overnight trains are more popular on this route.
 

Luxury Tourist Trains between Hanoi and Hue


From Hanoi to Hue, there are 5 luxury tourist trains which are Viollete Express on SE1, Livitrans Express and Viollete Express on SE3, Lotus Express and Laman Express on SE19. Except Laman Express, other trains only offer soft sleepers, VIP cabins with 2 berth are only available on Laman Express, while the ticket price is much higher, almost twice of the price of Soft sleeper.

As for the return trip from Hue to Hanoi, only two Luxury Tourist Trains serve on this line, which are Livitrans Express on SE4 and Lotus Express on SE20, none of them provide VIP cabin, only soft sleepers are offered.

How to Get: It is located in the city center, you could take bus No. 86, 86CT, 01, 32, 38, 40 or CNG03 and get off at Ga Hà Nội.
