In March, Jiuzhaigou steps into spring, and the average temperature is around 4-15°C (39-59℉). In the first half month, the high temperature ranges from 10 - 15°C (50 - 59℉), while in the second half month, the high temperature is above 15°C (59℉). Besides, it should be noted that there are large temperature differences between day and night, which is usually over 10°C (50℉). Therefore, you may need to take off the thick jackets in the sunny daytime.

March is the last month of the slack season. The weather is warmer than other slack months while the number of visitors is still small, enabling you to have a great traveling experience. Moreover, you will spend less because both flight tickets and hotels are relatively cheap.

What to Wear and Pack to Visit Jiuzhaigou in March

Upper: In the first half of the month, Jiuzhaigou weather is a little cold, especially when the sun is absent. Therefore, you still need to pack some thick jackets like thin downcoats and thin padded jackets for cold mornings and nights and cloudy days. Remember to bring a lightweight one so you can take it off and hold it in your bag conveniently when the weather turns warmer. If you plan to go there in the second half month, you can bring wool overcoats or windbreakers instead of downcoats. As for the inner layers, you can wear wool sweaters or hoodies.

Bottoms: Warm jeans or sweatpants plus thermal pants are fine.

Shoes: Since you may walk a lot, comfortable and warm sneakers and casual shoes are suitable. To cope with the possible snowy days, you can also take snow boots, which can protect you from slippery and wet ground.

Others: Sunglasses and other sun-protective gear are essential in plateaus like Jiuzhaigou, where the UV rays are strong in all seasons. You can bring a hat with you so that you will not be influenced by the possible cold winds. Besides, you are advised to bring rain gear to keep your clothes dry on rainy or snowy days. As it can be quite windy at this time, especially in Jiuzhaigou Valley, a raincoat would be a better choice than an umbrella.

What to See in Jiuzhaigou Valley in March

In March, snowy days still exist in Jiuzhaigou. Peaks covered by snow in the distance and the unmelted Long Lake provide you with the romantic white scenery you can see in winter. Except for the Long Lake, most of the lakes and waterfalls gradually melt, making them more sparkling in the sunshine than they are in winter. Moreover, trees begin to bud or produce green leaves. So you can experience both the scenery of winter and spring.

Blue Lake in March

Going to Jiuzhiagou in late March 2025, you can also see the seasonal scenery at this time: peach blossoms. Beside the turquoise blue lake, there are patches of pink peach blossoms in full bloom, giving a sweet scent.

1. Peach Blossom Time in Jiuzhaigou: Peach blossoms at lower elevations bloom first, usually in mid-March; while those at higher elevations bloom later, usually in April. So the best viewing time is from mid-March to mid-April.

2. Peach Blossom Viewing Sites: Peach blossoms bloom along most of the lakes, but their main gathering places are Tiger Lake, Sparkling Lake, and Reed Lake.
