Questions & Answers on Beijing - Qufu Train

Is it better to book first class or second class seat?
We are planning to travel to Qufu for a one day trip but we find our traveling date is during Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival. We heard that second class seat carriage can be fully filled by people with no seats? Is this true? How about first class carriage? Is it necessary to book first class?

Thank you for your inquiry.
Train service is indeed busier during holiday time, sometimes there will be standing tickets for sale and passengers can stand in second class carriage. However, not all trains offer standing tickets. For your round trip between Beijing and Qufu, there is no standing tickets for sale. Please rest assured. First class is surely more comfortable but second class seat is also acceptable for a 2.5 hours trip.

Is it possible to get ticket on the same day of travel?
I am not sure if I can reach the station in time, so I do not know which train to book. Will I be able to get the tickets directly from station? Ticket sold out quickly?

You can buy ticket on spot in cash with passports, but the ticket availability indeed hard to predict. During holiday time like May 1st, this cannot work. If for normal working days, it would be possible. Or you may choose a later train with plenty of time and change to earlier one if you reached there earlier.

How far is it from Qufu East Station to Shangri-La Hotel?
And how can I reach Confucius Temple from the hotel. What time will the Confucius Temple closed? Thank you!

It is about 11km between East Station and your hotel. You can take bus No. K30 and get off at the 10th stop, Hualian Shangsha, then walk to the hotel. Taxi would be more convenient, 20min only. The hotel is about 2km away from the Confucius Temple, you may take bus No. K05 for 3 stops or maybe by walking, maybe 25min walking. I think the closing time should be at 5pm.
