Published: June 16, 2009

A short expedition trip to Yan'an City in Northern Shaanxi was arranged by the TravelChinaGuide sales department. A team of employees took an overnight train on June 12 from Xi'an and arrived next morning. Aside from the well-known attractions in the city, such as Hukou Waterfall and Huangdi Mausoleum, the expedition moved on to the Date Garden - the site of the CCP Secretariat from October 1943 to March 1947, Yangjialing - the headquarters of the Chinese Communist Party and Yan'an Revolutionary Memorial Museum which is not far from Yangjialing. They took a lot of photos and brought back first-hand travel information from Yan'an.

Yan'an is only about 4 hours' drive away from Xi'an by express bus. This means a side trip to Yan'an as an extension of Xi'an tours is easily accomplished.

Managers of the sales department of TravelChinaGuide went on an attraction expedition trip on June 2 to Xi'an's nearest neighbor, Xianyang – the capital city of the first feudal dynasty, Qin (221-207BC), in Chinese history. There are a great many mausoleums of the Qin, Han (206BC – 220AD) and Tang (618 - 907) Dynasties. Among the most famous ones are Qianling Mausoleum, Hanyangling Mausoleum and Maoling Mausoleum.

This expedition was to explore Maoling Mausoleum, the tomb of Liu Che - Emperor Wu (Wudi) of Han Dynasty who is believed to be one of the most extraordinary and talented of the Chinese emperors. The staff went to Xianyang from Xi'an first (intercity bus routes are available), and then took a taxi to the museum directly. On the way back to the city proper of Xianyang, they visited Xianyang Museum in Zhongshan Street. The museum occupies the site of the previous Confucius Temple first built in 1371 in Ming Dynasty.

For short distance from Xi'an, these attractions can be finished in a day tour. They are a part of the Xi'an West Route Tour.
