Urumqi Weather in May

As the weather gets warm, you can bring some thin clothes such as long-sleeve shirts, thin coats, cotton and linen suit and jeans. However cotton wadded jackets, light sweaters and wind coats are indispensable, for they can protect you from coldness at night.On sunny days in the pleasant climate, moderate outdoor activities are OK. Located about 45 kilometers (28 miles) southeast of Urumqi, the Chaiwopuhu National Wetland Park centered on the Chaiwopu  Lake is divided into wetland landscape viewing area, lakeside adventure area, recreational sport area and ecological conservation area. The Chaiwopu Lake is the largest freshwater lake in the suburbs of Urumqi, which receives melted snow water from Bogda Peak. It is a cold water lake and the surface of the water is as smooth as a mirror. In the daytime, the clear sky, limpid lake water and beautiful surrounding scenery will make you relaxed. At night, stars in the sky are almost close enough to touch.

The Salt Lake is 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) away from the above park. There you can float on the lake or appreciate exquisite salt carvings in shape of flowers, birds, cattle and sheep. In indoor swimming pool, you can also experience black mud spa, mineral salt therapy and other health and beauty projects. Southern Pasture is famous for West Poplar Valley with yurts and herds of sheep and cows.
 It is windy in the Chaiwopuhu National Wetland Park and Salt Lake scenic areas, so you’d better wear a gauze scarf and sunglasses. Some commonly used medicines are essential on a long journey in case of discomfort. For fear of the inconvenience of heavy passenger traffic during May Day holiday, you’d better make your travel plan in advance and book train or flight ticket as early as possible.
