From what I read about the food and drinks, only business class seat holders for long distance trip got free meals. You may got snacks in business class carriage, nothing for first and second class seats.

Can we board the train separately from different stations?
We are a group of 8 passengers, two families. We are planning to buy the tickets from Beijing to Weifang. We were told that our seats will be far from each other if we book tickets separately. So we are wondering if we book 8 tickets together from Beijing, can 4 of us board later from Tianjin? Will this be a problem?

Thank you for your inquiry.

We are pleased to offer ticket booking service for you. You can buy all 8 tickets together from Beijing South Station so the seats will be near each other. The 4 passengers can collect their paper tickets in advance and board from Tianjin later. The seats will be reserved for passengers for the whole trip. However, please make sure the train you choose will stop at Tianjin. Not all of these rides stop in Tianjin for a break. Hope for your advanced notice. Thank you.

You need to check this information after your arrival at station. You can find the train number on the LED screen and there will be corresponding checkin gate (or it will shows on the top right corner of your paper ticket). The platform to use will be shows at the checkin gate when the checkin time is approaching.
