Clothing Recommendations in December
In December, you can bring some summer clothes like causal tanks, short-sleeve T-shirts, shorts, vacation dress and sandals. To cope with the Christmas atmosphere by end of the month, you can also bring some Christmas clothes in red and green, or with snow flake patterns and elk decorations. And remember to bring a long-sleeve coat, a long dress or thin pants; because in Thailand, it is prohibited to wear shorts or tops without sleeves in temples and palaces. Long clothes will help you deal with the temperature gap outside and in rooms with air conditioners, too.
It is also a good idea to pack light and buy clothes from the local markets upon arrival. There are lots of clothing shops, swim wear shops and traditional Thai garments shops in different markets and fairs and the price is not high. In December, the big shopping malls in Thailand also have all kinds of special promotions.
What to Do in Thailand in December
Celebrate Christmas in “Summer”
As a tropical country, the temperature in Thailand keeps high even in December. Thus you can have a different Christmas vacation with shorts and skirts like in summer rather than in cold winter. Thailand has a very strong Christmas atmosphere: many stores will set up festival decorations and Christmas trees; shopping malls will give out various kinds of sale promotions and Christmas edition products; many parties and Christmas dinners with candlelight will be held by the seaside. If needed, there are also Thai style cathedrals for you to go on the Christmas day. Are you planning your 2024 Christmas trip? Then think about Thailand!
Beach and Island Tours along East Coast and Andaman Sea
Thailand Gulf and West Coast are getting into the monsoon season in December. So if you would like to have a vacation by the seaside, you’d better choose the ones along the East Coast and the Andaman Sea, like Pattaya and Phuket.
Pattaya is famous for the lively atmosphere. There is Pattaya Beach, famous Tiffany’s Lady-boy Show and Pattaya Floating Market. From Pattaya, you can also go to Koh Samet and Koh Lipe to have quieter vacations. On the Koh Samet Island, all you can see is green forests, white beach and blue sea. The west coast of it is famous of the sunset view. The Hat Sai Kaew is one of the most beautiful beaches there, whose name means crystal sands. Koh Lipe is a newly favored island by tourists in Thailand. It has original environments for tourists to enjoy fishing, snorkeling, diving and sea kayaking.
Phuket in the Andaman Sea is the biggest and the first developed island of Thailand. You can experience motorboat, surfing, parasailing and other water sports there. Except the main island, the outlying islands Similan Island and Phi Phi Island have incredible scenery. Similan is a national park of Thailand consisting of nine islands. All the islands there have their original landscapes without artificial traces. It is only open from November to April to protect the coral reefs and animals there. Koh Phi Phi also has turquoise-like sea, colorful corals and tropical fishes. Both of them are the paradises for diving lovers.
Cultural Tour in Bangkok
In cool and dry December, it is comfortable to tour Bangkok with typical Southeast Asia culture. In this city, you can visit the historical buildings like Chakri Maha Prasat and Dusit Maha Prasad in the Grand Palace, and the temples like the Wat Pho, Wat Phra Kaew, and Wat Arun. Meanwhile, Bangkok is a modern city, lying in the most up-to-date shopping malls like Iconsiam and centralwOrld. To feel local folk customs, you can go to local styled fairs like Asiatique The Riverfront and Amphawa Floating Market.
