Most parts of Thailand is in the tropical monsoon climate area, so it is hot through most of the year. The temperature is between 19-36℃ (66.2-96.8℉) over the whole year, and the average yearly temperature is 28℃ (82.4℉). The hottest season is summer or hot season from March to May. During the summer in 2024, the highest temperature reached 44℃ (111.2℉), which also leads to dry weather. Winter or cool season is relatively cooler than in summer, when the average temperature is 23℃ (73.4℉). Besides that, there is an obvious rainy season from June to October. During these five months, the total rainfall could reach 917mm (36in), which takes up 85% of the rainfall of the whole year.
Meanwhile, the weather in northern mountainous area of Thailand like Chiangmai is much cooler than middle area like Bangkok and southern islands. The temperature in the northern mountainous area can even drop below 10℃(50℉) in the cool season. The northern area also has a larger temperature difference between noon and night than other areas.
Although Thailand weather is hot all over the year, in despite of summer clothes, it is necessary to bring thin coats and long-sleeve shirts and long trousers or long dress. As a Buddhist country, Thailand has plenty of temples. When you are visiting a temple or Thai palace, you should wear decent clothes to show your respect. Then the temperature controlled by air conditioners indoors usually is quite low. Thin coat or long pants will help to avoid catching old from the temperature gap between indoors and outdoors.

November to February is the best time to go to Thailand undoubtedly. In Thailand’s winter, it is not scorching hot but relatively cool and has little rain there, which is convenient and comfortable for island traveling and historical sites exploration. Besides that, April is another good choice if you’d like to take part in the famous Songkran Festival and experience unique Thai local culture.

In rainy season, rainfall will increase over the Thailand. But most of the rain is storm or shower in the afternoon or at dusk. It is usually sunny in the morning, which is still suitable for outdoors activities. Thanks to the abundant rainfall, the waterfalls are grander and forests are greener. The bad thing is that some islands will be hit by storms or big waves, not suitable for visit.

Winter is the best season to tour Thailand because of the mild weather. It is also the peak tourist season of Thailand, so the food and hotel will be more expensive than in other seasons. This season with dry and comfortable climate fits in island tourism with swimming and fishing in the log cabin by the seaside, as well as city walk.
