For those who have watched the fantasy movie Avatar, Zhangjiajie with its spectacular quartz-sandstone pillars would be familiar to you. The story of the pillars can be traced back to hundreds of million years ago, when the initial parent quartz sandstone was formed, and it’s over another countless years that it was fractured and eroded to the current stone forest. This landform was what inspired the striking visual effects and the epic landscapes in Avatar, whose special effects team had once visited here to find views for photographing.

9:00-13:00 Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon & Glass Bridge
► Route: Tourist Center → Glass Bridge → Elevator Down to Grand Canyon → Sky Ladder Plank Road → A Strip of Sky → Shenquan Lake Cruise → Exit
As soon as we enter the scenic area, you will first be amazed by the high-rising Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge that spans the two sides of the canyon. Dare you to walk across the highest and longest glass bridge in the world? Try it, and you’ll find the view you’ve never seen before from the bridge. Through the transparent deck, you will feel a sense of freedom strolling in the air, and could not help but let out a WOW when you see the deep valley hundreds of meters below you. If you are afraid of heights, it is better not to try and ask the guide to arrange another passage for you.
► In order to provide you with a safe and pleasant experience and ensure the safety of the glass bridge, we remind you that the following items are not allowed onto the bridge: stilettos, thermos mugs, metal pointed crutches, hard metal objects, inflammable and explosive items, etc.
Cross the glass bridge and continue on our way down the elevator to enjoy the otherworldly karst landscape. Another 10 minutes or so down the stairs will lead us to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Through the twists and turns of the plank road, we’ll reach the dreamlike ‘A Strip of Sky’. Walking on the narrow path sandwiched by cliffs, you can only see a strip of sky when you look up. Get overwhelmed by the workmanship of nature, and understand why it is known as the museum of geomorphology. The next leg of the hike is like a fairyland with lush greenery, spectacular waterfalls, gurgling streams and mist wreathing between the mountains. Finally, a 10-minute boat ride on the emerald green lake will take you to the exit.
► Tip: For those who like adventure and novelty, plenty of optional activities here won’t disappoint you, such as a zipline over the canyon, a slideway down the mountain, and a bungee jump in the middle of the glass bridge, which only a few brave souls would dare to attempt. If you are interested, please contact us to book for you in advance.

13:00-14:30 Have Lunch & Transfer to Yellow Dragon Cave
At noon, our guide will accompany you to a local restaurant to taste authentic Zhangjiajie food, and then we’ll take a break. Later, board our private car for half an hour ride to the afternoon destination – Yellow Dragon Cave.
14:30-17:30 Explore Yellow Dragon Cave (Huanglong Cave)
The Yellow Dragon Cave boasts typical karst landform, featuring huge cave space and dense stalagmites, like an underground maze. Once inside, follow the guide as you grope along a dark path, making it look more like an adventure. Enjoy a variety of stalactites, stalagmites, stone flowers, helictites, stone curtains as well as waterfalls in the cave, showing a gorgeous scene under the light.
In the giant cave of Dragon Palace, which was formed 200,000 years ago, you can see more than 1,000 stalagmites and stone pillars. Admire the highest one, called the Tide Control Pillar. Watch your step as well as your headroom, as the highest point in the cave reaches 140 meters (460 feet), but some places are less than a person tall. What’s more, we will arrange a 15-minute boat ride along the deep underground river for you to see the marvelous stalagmites.
► Tip: The temperature inside the cave is lower, especially when taking the boat, so you're suggested to bring a coat.

► Free Time Suggestions:
If you spend the night in Wulingyuan, you can try barbecue and local beer on the food street like locals do. If you transfer to downtown Zhangjiajie for the night, don’t miss the magical 72 Tujia Stilted Buildings, a new landmark in Zhangjiajie that serves as a great nightlife hangout place, bustling with traditional crafts workshops, lively bars, and a variety of food. For local cuisine explorers, do drop by the chain restaurant Yin Xiang Lao Zao Tai (Zao Tai is a traditional cooking counter with a built-in stove), which can be found in both regions. Try its Water-Boiled Fish (Shui Zhu Yu) cooked in the traditional method, which retains a special tenderness and flavor that is hard to find elsewhere. The restaurant is also attractive for carrying forward the Zao Tai culture. If interested, you can even ask to cook by yourself for fun and some unique memories. The average cost is CNY 70 or USD 9 per person.
