An Extension to Tunchang

Day 1 Wanlü Garden - Wugong Temples - Haikou Old Arcade Street

Haikou is one of the most famous tourist resorts in China, its fantastic scenery and comfortable climate appeal to thousands of visitors every year. This tour will lead you to this well-known seaside city and introduce you to its many marvels.

In the morning, take a taxi (CNY10 - 15) or bus No.3, 6, 9, 17, 18, 22, 23, 31, 32, 37, 39, 44, 54, or 57 to Wanlü Garden. The garden is the biggest tropical marine ecology botanical garden in Haikou and it is also a fantastic place for relaxation. This garden is located on the beachfront avenue of Longhua district. The best season for visiting this garden is from the months of May to October. The garden is free to enter.

Hainan University is not far from the garden; take bus No.21 for 7 stops to Jinghai Huayuan and walk to the campus. You can also have your lunch in or near the campus.

Wugongci, Haikou

In the afternoon, take bus No.44 for 11 stops to Wugong Temples, which is located at No.169 Haifu Road, Qiongshan District. The admission fee is CNY25. Wugong Temples is actually an ancient architectural complex of temples and surrounding buildings, which were built in memory of five famous officials who had been assigned to Haikou during the Tang (618 - 907) and Song dynasties (960 - 1279).

The last stop of the day is Haikou Old Arcade Street. Take bus No.14 to the Bell Tower stop and the old street is just at your left side. You can also rent a bicycle to ride around the old streets. The streets here are noted for the old arcade houses most of which have been built in the early 19th century with distinct European and Southern Asian styles. At the end of Jiefang West Road there is a snack street where you can find local snacks, such as coconut and rice, sandworm porridge, and Baoluo rice noodles.

Day 2 Hainan Safari Park - Wolong Mountain

On the second day, take a bus to Hainan Safari Park, located in Dongshan town Qiongshan district. You are advised to take the tourist special line to the park directly from the Wanfulong supermarket Mingzhu Square at around 10 in the morning; a round trip tickets is CNY68. The park is open from 08:00 to 17:30 and the admission fee is CNY80 per person.

Then continue to the next stop, Wolong Mountain, located in Datong Town, Tunchang County. Take tourist bus line 2 from the zoo to Haikou South Coach Station to catch a bus to Tunchang County (80 minutes, CNY22 - 32). Alight at Datong Town and then take a local mini bus to Wolong Mountain. After your visit, take a mini bus back to Tunchang County and stay overnight at a local hotel. We recommend Tunchang Hotel, at No.34 Wenhua Road.

Day 3 Muse Lake - Fengmu Deer Ranches

Visit Muse Lake and Fengmu Deer Ranches. You can take a taxi to the lake first. Muse Lake is situated in Fengmu town and covers an area of 28 square kilometers. There are actually two lakes, one is Muse Lake and the other is Leigongtan Lake, with a magnificent waterfall connecting the two lakes. Muse Lake is actually an artificial lake boasting plenty of water plants and groups of waterfowls that fly over the lake surface. At the southern side of the lake, you can reach Fengmu deer ranch. This field occupies an area of more than 200 Mu (32 acres). In the deer ranch, you can purchase sweet potato chips to feed the deer or have your photos taken petting the deer. The admission fee of this field is CNY5. Afterwards, return to Tunchang to catch the bus back to Haikou City.
