Haikou Transportation -- Getting Around

Traffic runs smoothly in the downtown area of Haikou and traffic jams are seldom seen.
 

Haikou metro is planned to open 4 lines including a tram line in 2020. These rail transut lines will link the Haikou Railway Station, Meilan International Airport and New Seaport Wharf together, passing by Haibin District, Binjiang District, Bailong District, Jiangdong District and Shuicheng District. It will be more convenient for visitors to travel around this city.

Tourist Bus Line 1: Baishamen — Huoshankou National Forest Park
Itinerary (34km): Baishanmen–Golden Coast Lawton Hotel–Wanfu Xincun–Ever Green Park–Fuhao Dasha–Hainan Overseas Chinese Middle School–Asia International Hotel–Jinniuling Park–Tomb of Hai Rui–Huoshankou National Forest Park

Note: Public buses stop running earlier than elsewhere. And the bus fare rises during the Spring Festival.
 Besides the two traveling viewing bus lines, other 55 city-bus lines have been opened in the city. These buses could reach all of the main spots in the city, including Haikou Meilan Airport, Xiuying Port, Ever Green Garden, Wugong Temple, bus stations and so on.  Here are some lines for your reference:

Street scene

The flag-down rate is CNY10 for the first 3km (1.9mi) and CNY2 for every succeeding kilometer (0.6mi). For every minute’s waiting, regardless of traffic jam and traffic lights, it charges extra CNY3. CNY1 fuel fee is required for each ride. 24-hour taxi reservation is accessible by dialing 96799, for which CNY5-25 service fee is charged according to the service areas and due-time consumption.

 Car rental is available. As foreign visitors, you should take your passport, resident certificate, Chinese driving license and credit card and expect to pay CNY15,000 to 20,000 as a deposit.

Note: There are no toll stations on any part of the highways of Hainan. The toll has been included in the gasoline prices, so the price of gasoline is higher than that of other places.
