When you arrive at the airport, you can take airport shuttle bus line 7 to Beijing West Railway Station. It costs CNY 24. Then you can catch a train from Beijing to Datong. It takes 9 or 12 hours. A hard sleeper costs CNY 174. A soft sleeper costs CNY 263. After you visit Dadong, you can take a train to Pingyao directly. It takes around 8 hours. A hard seat costs CNY 61. A soft sleeper cost CNY 186. A hard sleeper costs CNY 122.

It’s too early to forecast the weather conditions in September. Based on previous records, the weather conditions in these three places are good. It isn’t too hot because summer is already gone. It’s a good time to travel.

PS: I think you may book your train tickets in advance to ensure that your trip won’t be spoiled if the train tickets are sold out.

May I know where can I buy bullet train tickets in Beijing? How many hours to arrive Datong? How many days needed to see all main attractions in Datong? Any local guided tour available? How much for 2 or 3 days?

Thank you

But as I know, there is no bullet train service for the trip, so you can only take a normal express train. The train ticket can be bought at any railway station or train ticket office in Beijing.

Generally, three days are recommended to take a trip in Datong. Surely there are guided tours for the trip. If you are interested, I know Travel China Guide arranges such tour and here is their contact for your reference:
