Ranking the first among the four Buddhist holy mountains (other three are: Mt.Putuo, Mt.Jiuhua, Mt.Emei) in China, Mount Wutai, the enlightenment place of the Bodhisattva Manjusri, is renowned both at home and abroad. The temples on the mountain were built in the Eastern Han Dynasty (25 - 220) originally and were built in a large number in the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907) because of the prosperity of the belief in Bodhisattva Manjusri then.
