Warm winter clothes are of course indispensable during February when travelling to Mt. Fuji area. Sweater, wool overcoat, padded jacket, thermal shirt, etc. are all suitable there. Warm hiking shoes or boots might also be a good choice to go around the area.

Places to Go around Mount Fuji in February

In addition to Mount Fuji itself, there are many sites and attractions around worth visiting. At the southern foot, Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine, the head of all Sengen shrines throughout Japan, is well-preserved. Oshino Hakkai, near Lake Kawaguchi, is a great place to catch images of Mt. Fuji. This is a picturesque village with thatched roofs and a set of ponds, making you feel like getting into an animation world. Hakone is the best onsen town around Mt. Fuji, providing both great views of the mountain and unforgettable onsen bathing experience. In Owakudani Valley in Hakone, one can see steaming hot springs with sulfurous vapor. If you stay in Tokyo, Tokyo Skytree, Mori Tower, or Tokyo Tower are perfect places to look Mt. Fuji in a distance.

1. During cold February, do keep warm when getting to Mount Fuji.

2. Colorful events and festivals are held frequently at Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine. It’s very likely to encounter one. Take good care of yourself or fellows in the crowds while enjoying the festival vibe.
