Temple of Heaven, Beijing
Tiananmen Square, the world's largest urban square situated right in Beijing’s city center, is our first destination. After crossing over a stone bridge on the north side of the square, we will reach the Forbidden City (Treasure Galley included). This wonderful complex of well-preserved palaces was once home to emperors, their families and courtiers. Our guide will reveal many secrets of this place, such as why it’s lion statues, instead of tiger statues, squatting at the palace gates as guardians and power symbols. Simply put, lions, not native animals of China, were regarded rare and sacred. It’s only when foreign envoys began to offer lions as tribute to Chinese emperors that the lion’s image started to matter in China. What’s more, it’s also a symbol of dignity and auspiciousness in Buddhism, which since it became a popular belief enhancing people’s respect towards the animal.

Next, we will serve you an a la carte welcome lunch (valued at CNY150.00 per person and included in our price) with Peking Duck at a reputable restaurant.

This afternoon will see us strolling at Yonghe Temple, Tibetan Buddhists’ place of pilgrimage, and then Temple of Heaven, where emperors prayed to Heaven for bumper harvest. This evening, we will stay at Liyuan Theatre to see how Peking Opera artists paint their face and later watch a live Peking Opera Show.

The Terracotta Army, Xi'an
Today, head to the suburbs for a visit to the ranks of the Qin-era Terracotta Army, “the eighth wonder of the ancient world”. Here, thousands of lifelike pottery warriors, plus bronze weapons and horses, have guarded Emperor Qin Shi Huang (259 – 210 BC)'s tomb for over 2,000 years. Of all the warriors, there are some that might attract most of your attention, whose armors are adorned with seven bowknots that indicate superior military achievements. Until now, only nine of such warriors have been excavated, meaning they are rare - and unmissable! If you ever wonder how the Army were discovered, you will get the answer at the home - which we will visit - of a farmer, who brought the first warrior to light. A lesson is in store for you to craft a mini clay warrior you will take home.

This afternoon, continue to Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, a typical Tang-era square pagoda built over 1,300 years ago. After that, you will enjoy a Tang Dynasty Show with dumpling dinner at a theatre for you.
