In the suburban Shanghai, there is a fan-shaped small water town covering an area of 47km, it is Zhujiajiao, a famous ancient town with thousands years’ history. Someone call it the Venice in Shanghai, and someone flatter it the Pearl by the lake.
By the riverside, people can have a clear view of the traditional buildings or feel the elegant life styles when walking on the stone bridges of different styles. The various cable rocks dotted in the rivers and alleys. All travelers are beguiled by the complex of the unique landscape, its history, the architectures, and art.
This garden was built from 1912 and the whole project lasted 15 years to be completed. The owner Mr. Ma Wenqing was born in the old society but had new ideas. Being the richest person in that area, he combined the Chinese traditional architecture style and the characteristics of western buildings, which made this garden one of the popular garden in his age and now it is a must-see sites in Zhujiajiao.
This post office was first built in 1903, the exhibitions inside introduce how post industry developed from earliest courier station to modern post office. It is also the only existing well preserved post office site of Qing Dynasty around Shanghai.
