Day 1 Welcome to Madrid, Spain!
Welcome to choose our 14-day best Spain tour to cover all the highlights in the jewel of the Iberian Peninsula! On this tour, we will try the most eco-friendly way, public transport, to travel across the country, saving you money with less emissions. Upon landing in Madrid, you need to go to the hotel on your own. From the airport, take Bus Line 203 to Cibele Station and walk south about 800 meters to the hotel, which takes about 50 minutes. The fastest way is undoubtedly taking a taxi or using ride-hailing apps like Uber and Cabify, taking about 30 minutes and costing around 20-30 euros.

Activities Recommended:
After check-in, you are suggested to take a stroll in Madrid’s central city square, Puerta del Sol, brilliant for experiencing the lively atmosphere with famous statues of Bear & Strawberry Tree, and King Carlos III. Don’t forget to touch the feet of the bear, which is said to bring good luck to visitors. The plaza is surrounded by restaurants, shops, and dessert boutiques, where you can sample the delights of the city.

► Tip: Watch out for Tourist Traps at Puerta del Sol!
As Madrid's version of Times Square, Puerta del Sol is extremely busy and touristy. The super large crowds also contribute to some pickpocket problems and tourist scams. Some typical types include the Lucky Rosemary scam crafted by old gypsy women, using a map to cover the mobile phone and steal it, and fake restaurant vouchers which are not valid actually. Be careful of your belongings especially mobile phone when hanging out. It is also recommended to buy a phone wrist strap to keep it safe.

Dining Recommendation: Taste Spanish Tapas at Centuries-old Casa Alberto
The word “tapas” is derived from the verb “tapar”, meaning to cover. Now, it has become a key part of Spanish culinary culture, representing light snacks or appetizers before meals. Tapas could be cold dishes like different kinds of cheeses with olives while it can also be hot snacks like garlicky shrimp and fried baby squid. Casa Alberto founded in 1827 is the oldest restaurant in Madrid to taste a large variety of delicious tapas. With traditional decorative elements like tin sinks and faucets, and the agate bar, customers can get a full feel of history as the famous writer Cervantes had once lived here. It offers traditional Spanish dishes like Tail Stew and Veal Meatballs and the average cost of the restaurant is about 25 to 35 euros.

Then we will move to the neighboring neo-Gothic style church, Catedral de la Almudena, where over 400 soaring columns and an exquisite crypt will impress you a lot. At noon, we will stop by the famous Mercado de San Miguel, the traditional food market with a wrought-iron-and-glass structure. Home to dozens of food stalls, the foodie paradise offers fresh fruits, vegetables, tapas, hams and specialty dishes from all over Spain. 2. Watch an Exciting Bullfighting Show
Bullfighting is undoubtedly a national spectacle and your Spain exploration would be incomplete without watching a lively bullfighting performance. Andalusia is known as the birthplace of bullfighting and watching a show in Seville is great. A regular bullfight is generally composed of 6 parts and masters must kill bulls within a specified time.
► Note: Except for Seville’s April Fair, bullfighting shows are not available every day, so book your tickets in advance! The game is bloody and cruel, and there will be six bulls dying during the process. Visitors who have never seen a bullfight need to be more cautious about watching as most foreign audiences consider it too cruel.

► Things to Know: Four Kings Carry the Coffin and Who's Inside?
You may wonder who the person is in the coffin carried by kings of the following kingdoms: Castilla, Leon, Navarra, and Aragon. The answer is Christopher Columbus, the famous explorer who discovered the “New World”. In 2003, Seville Cathedral took DNA from the remains and compared it with those of Columbus's son Ferdinand. And the result turned out to be the real remains of Columbus. The tomb was said to use more than 350 kg of silver and its bottom was inscribed with the achievements of Columbus's life in Spanish.

After that, we will take a break at Seville’s old town area, the Santa Cruz Area, also the former Jewish quarter. After lunch, we will visit Real Alcazar de Sevilla, Europe’s oldest palace compound which is still in use. With a typical Mudéjar style, it is also famous as the setting of the famous series Game of Thrones. Finish the visit, and you will then stop by Torre de Oro, a dodecagonal military watchtower that has played an important defensive role since the 13th century. Later, you will have a short visit to Plaza de toros de Sevilla, the largest bullfighting ring in Spain, where you will get an insight into Spain’s bullfighting culture and learn about the specific process and equipment of bullfighting.

★ Special Arrangement: Hands-on Cooking Class
After that, walk across the Puente de Isabel II (Triana Bridge), and you will experience a special cooking class to learn to cook 3 traditional Spanish dishes. All the food ingredients are prepared and you just need to follow the chef step by step for a Spanish cold soup gazpacho, a tapas Spinach with Chickpeas and a main course Valencia paella. It is also available for you to acquire a written recipe with cooking tips.

The most traditional Valencia Paella contains rice, beans, and meat combinations of rabbit, duck, chicken, and even snails. Today, more versions of paella are served and seafood ingredients are included, like Paella de Mariscos and Paella Negra.

Day 13 Barcelona: Park Güell, Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló, Barcelona Cathedral, Sunset Cruise
After breakfast, your private guide will meet you at the hotel and accompany you first to appreciate Gaudi’s famous architecture, which is characterized by the Catalan Modernist style. Firstly, we will get to Park Güell, standing high on the top of El Carmel Mountain, offering a good location overlooking the city. You will be amazed at its quirky colorful mosaics, waving balconies, and lovely houses. Then we will head to the city’s most iconic architecture, Sagrada Familia, known as the world’s largest unfinished church and its construction has lasted for over 140 years till today. The astonishing three facades with intricate carvings depicting key moments of Christ’s life from birth, death to resurrection will make you linger around.
► Tips
1. Your experienced guide will lead you to find some good spots to catch the most amazing photos of Sagrada Familia, including the square stone pier opposite the church and Plaça de Gaudí, the plaza across a lake from the cathedral.
2. If you happen to visit the church on Sunday, it is possible for you to take part in the mass at the Sagrada Familia. Due to the limited capacity, generally it is required to queue up before 7:30 in the morning. If you are interested, your guide can adjust the visit order accordingly.

Finish the sightseeing, and we will continue the visit to Gaudi’s other two spectacular masterpieces, Casa Batlló and Casa Mila, full of colors and symbolic elements like the skull-shaped balconies. It is interesting to appreciate the mosaic façade and the unique roof terrace. After that, you will be led to the famous indoor food market Mercat de la Boqueria in the city center, home to over 200 food stalls offering fresh fruits, vegetables, candy, ham, and various meat and seafood.

After lunch, stroll around the Gothic Quarter to explore the city’s oldest part, encompassing historical Europe-style streets and alleys. We will also drop by the centuries-old churches Barcelona Cathedral and Basílica de Santa Maria del Mar. Constructed for over 6 centuries, the Barcelona Cathedral features a blending of Gothic and neo-Gothic styles. As for Basílica de Santa Maria del Mar (Cathedral of the Sea), it is also a beautiful Gothic-style cathedral, well-known for inspiring a novel of the same name.
