Traveling on the local streets, you will find an obvious landmark of the city- the Drum Tower. It was built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and was restored many times in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Some of the local main streets were built in the ancient style. Hello, I would like to ask, how much would it cost to hire a cab for a day to take us to the Hanging Monastery, Wooden Pagoda and Yungang? Because we are going on a weekend trip and heading to Pingyao after Datong, was just thinking perhaps it's better to hire a cab so we can leave our luggages on the cab while we see these attractions rather than carry everything with us.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks a lot! :)

It is good idea to hire a car for visiting these places. The suggested fare is around 350RMB per car. It may be a little higher during these holidays. Good luck!

Hello Mr Shan, thanks for replying! I was just wondering, do you happen to know if there are tour agencies operating from the train station so we might just join one of their tours? Thanks! :)

I'm afraid that you just could find some local guide for Chinese travelers when you were there. And, the one-day tour only includes the Hanging Monastery and Yungang Caves. So, you'd better book a private English tour which could arrange a special tour for you. Or, book a cab with driver through a reliable agency. Good luck!
