Hi
I want to hire a car driver out of Datong for 2 days (for 2 people) to drive us around the sights (great wall, yungang caves, hanging monastery). The next day at watai shan and see some local sights. Transferred to Taiyuan to catch overnight train to Xi'an on the second day. Where can I book a driver car locally and what is approximate price for a car per day. Thanks

Hi,Mrs.Bron
The fare for one car per day varies from 200RMB to 500RMB. The price depends on the type of the car and the service you call for. If you know Chinese, you can find the related information on car rental website. Good luck for you!

Hi, I think you could finish both of the two routes by train. From Beijing West Railway Station, there are over 15 trains to reach Datong everyday. The journey is about 6 hours. And, from Datong Railway Station, there about 20 trains to Hohhot, just take about 4.5 hours. Well, you could search the train details at https://www.travelchinaguide.com/china-trains/

Bus is better. Although train is comfortable, but there is no direct train to Pingyao to reach. You should make a transfer at Taiyuan, which will cost you about 7 to 8 hours to reach. Hope the answer is not late to you. :-)
