planning Tiananmen square,Forbidden city in august.any facilities for senior citizens?how much walk?

I'm afraid such facilities in the square are not available, unless you prepare a wheelchair for the senior. It can be generally-acceptable walking for seniors.
In the forbidden city, there are benches and rest rooms. Besides, they provide wheelchairs for renting. If you wanna have a full visit in the museum, there will be much walking.

Is the Tiananmen Tower built at the same time as the Forbidden City?

Yes, approximately as the same time. It was called Chengtianmen Tower or Gate when it was built in 1417 in Ming Dynasty. It was the front entrance to the Ming imprial city.

Please advise me: when the famous National Museum of China will be open? I was there last year, in October, and was not allowed to visit it due to construction works. Thank you.

It is said that the museum is still under construction and will be open in 2010.
