Mongolia, an enigmatic country landlocked between Russia and China, captivates droves of travelers with Genghis Khan’s legends, nomadic culture and traditions, untouched grassland, Gobi deserts, and Buddhist temples. For common visitors, 9-10 days are enough to explore its most iconic spots, such as the snow-peaked Altai Mountains and its alpine lakes and meadows in the west and the golden-silk-like Gobi desert in the south. Besides, probe into the Hustai National Park to trace the world’s only pure wild horses, climb to the top of the huge Turtle Rock at the Terelj National Park to capture a panoramic view of emerald valleys and jagged rocks, and ascend the horseback of Genghis Khan Statue Complex to peer his territory while winds whisper his triumph and tragedy.

The majestic history adds solemnity to the expansive grassland. Explore Karakorum, the 13th-century capital of the Mongol Empire, with stone turtles and archaeological sites testifying to the triumph of Genghis Khan. Petroglyphs hidden in the serene valley, deer stones standing on the endless steppe, and surviving ancient Buddhist temples are witnesses of the country’s ups and downs.

If you have enough time and want a detailed exploration of some off-the-beaten spots of this nomadic country, the Mongolia tour of more than 2 weeks is recommended. A combination of China, Mongolia, and Russia is also a good choice for adventure seekers who want to travel along the world’s longest single rail. But if you are limited in time, we also offer a one-week itinerary from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar. All itineraries on our website are customizable. Message us if you have any questions, and we will reply within 12 hours!

What to See in Mongolia for First-time Travelers?

Mongolia is a unique place combining the Gobi desert and green steppes. Where to visit depends on how long you will stay. If you only have two or three days, then Hustai National Park and Terelj National Park near Ulaanbaatar should not be missed. If time permits, you can probe into the ancient capital of Mongolia – Karakorum and worship in Mongolia’s oldest monastery - Erdenezuu Buddhist Monastery in the Orkhon Valley. Besides, camel-riding in Elsen Tasarhai Semi Gobi, hiking in Yolyn Am (Eagle Valley) & Bayanzag (Flaming Cliffs), exploring Altai Tavan Bogd National Park and Khuvsgul Lake on horseback, soaking in the open-air hot spring, and visiting a local herder family can enrich your journey. Our best Mongolia tours can be customized according to your duration.

When is the Best Time to Visit Mongolia?

With more than 260 sunny days, Mongolia meets its peak tourist season from May to late September, during which you can partake in the Naadam Festival held from July 11th to 13th to learn the authentic nomadic culture. Although it is warm during the day at this time, the temperature will decrease on the plain at night, so we recommend you dress in layers. If you are going to the Gobi desert, please remember to prepare sun-protective gear. We offer a wide variety of Mongolia travel packages to suit your different travel times.

Do I Need a Visa to Visit Mongolia?

Passport holders of 61 countries or regions, including the US, UK, Canada, and Italy, can enjoy a 14 to 90-day visa-free policy. Tourists who are coming from some European countries, where there is no Mongolian diplomatic presence, are eligible to obtain an on-arrival visa, holding pre-arrangement visa approval letters. Other visitors can apply for an e-visa online 1-2 weeks before departure.

How to Get to and Travel Around Mongolia?

As the economic and transportation center of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar is a first-timers' base. Two airports are available here, but most of the international flights use Genghis Khan International Airport. Domestic flights are available to connect big cities or regions, such as Dalanzadgad Airport in the south and Moron Airport in the north. Besides international flights, travelers can also take the train to Ulaanbaatar from Beijing in China or Moscow in Russia.

The other transportation is not developed, and English is seldom used here, thus, the best way is to travel with us. Generally, for a guided tour, our private guide and experienced driver with 4WD Japanese & Korean jeeps will take you around the huge steppe and desert.

Ger Camps: Is Internet or Wi-Fi Available and How about the Toilet & Bathroom?
