When getting to Osaka in December, winter illuminations is absolutely unmissable. Osaka Hikari Renaissance at Nakanoshima Park and Osaka Castle Illuminage are among the most brilliant winter illumination sites in Osaka; Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, Hirakata Park and Abeno Harukas are also favorite spots to enjoy winter illuminations. In early December, visitors can still seize the last chance of the year to appreciate red leaves. Mt. Inunaki is great to appreciate the red fall foliage all over the mountain with waterfalls, while trying Japanese traditional onsen bath. There are a variety of New Year celebrations in late December, when you can experience Japanese New Year celebrations in person. Shinsakbashi and adjacent Dotonbori are also recommended to taste hot Osakan snacks like takoyaki and okonomiyaki.
