Self Security
Before 2007, the public security in Benin was reliable. However, influenced by the nation's election at the end of 2007 and the economic depression, the social order of Benin deteriorated gradually. As a result, some vicious incidents have happened in Benin successively, including attacking the foreign businessmen. On the other hand, reported by the Economic Community of West African States that some light weapon has flowed into Benin during the ethnic conflicts between Niger and Mali. Therefore, travelers should take extra care of self security and safety of private property.
