Al-Azhar Mosque is the oldest mosque in Africa, and it is superb to learn the simple early Islamic architectural style. Citadel of Saladin, a medieval castle against Crusaders, is also a splendid Islamic architecture. It allows visitors to get a panoramic view of Cairo on the terrace. Khan Al Khalili Bazaar is well-preserved with a lot of shops on sides; the old quarter seems to be a fairytale world especially the wonderful lamp alley. Coming to old Cairo, one can also go to the Hanging Church to learn the Coptic arts and constructing skills.
Tips
Because of the burning sun, sun protection is the must in Cairo. Sunscreen, sunglasses and sunhat are the standard copies. Water replenishing is also important in such arid climate.
