Furong Cave and Yu River Drift

Wu River is the upstream branch of the Yangtze River, which is also called Qianjiang. It rises in the northern area of Guizhou and the eastern mountains of Sichuan. The overall length of the river is 1050 kilometers and the drainage area is 88,000 square kilometers. The upper reaches flow through limestone, while the middle reaches go through Dalou Mountain and Wuling Mountain. After improvements, nearly 500 kilometers of the middle and lower reaches are now open to motor boats. Wu River has two sources, south Sancha River and north Liuchong River. This tour will be taken along the Wu River.

On the first day, take a train from Chongqing to Wulong. You can purchase the tickets at Chongqing north railway station. The fare is between CNY9.00 and CNY20.00 and it takes 2-3 hours. If you prefer, you can take a bus at the Chaotianmen bus station. The bus leaves every half an hour from 8:00 to 18:00 and the ticket is about CNY65.00 per person. Upon arrival in Wulong, visit the Furong Cave, which is a large limestone cavern. Discovered in May, 1993, the cave is considered to be a scientific museum. You will be amazed by the fantastic scenery in the cave. The admission fee is CNY67.00 per person. After lunch, continue to visit Gongtan. On the way there you will have a chance to enjoy the Wujiang Gallery (Pengshui section). After arriving in Gongtan, visit the Pengshui Dragon Gate Canyon natural bridge. On the second morning, travel by boat to tour the main part of the Wujiang Gallery. Visit the first Chinese big millstone, the hundred year Wind and Rain long bridge and Qingquan Ancient Town. In the afternoon, spend your time in the Gongtan Ancient Town, where you will walk on flagstone streets. Go through Pijia lane to have a look at an ancient stage and visit houses projecting over water. Stay over night in Gongtan Ancient Town.

On the third day, take a bus to Pengshui at the rate of CNY40.00. It takes about 4 hours. Have lunch at a local restaurant to taste the famous sour spare-ribs, and then begin the exciting drift on the Yu River to explore the secret of the Yu Jiang crag coffins. Afterwards, continue your excursion to Fairy Mountain by bus. You may have a chance to experience an entire sheep roasted on a bonfire. Stay overnight on Fairy Mountain.

On the last day, have one full day at the Fairy Mountain National Forest Park. There are many sports and much entertainment on Fairy Mountain. You canstroll around at leisure or take part in activities such as horse riding, grass skiing, racing or shooting. Then find your own way back to Chongqing, where your pleasant tour along the Yangtze River will end.
