Started in the middle of Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644BC), Dongmen Pedestrian Street is the first commercial street and one of the most popular commercial streets in Shenzhen. Based on this pedestrian street, Shenzhen urban area is developed. Covering 28 modern commercial buildings in the 15 main streets with an area of 176,000 square meters (210,494 square yards), Shenzhen Dongmen Market has been a prosperous commercial area now integrating tourism, catering, leisure and shopping. Except the shopping malls and restaurants, there are also some cultural attractions like Century Bell, Siyue Academy and southern Chinese style architectures. 

Location: Dongmen Market is south to Lixin Road, north to Shennan Road, west to Middle Dongmen Road and east to Xinyuan Road, Luohu District.

1. Sun Plaza is a large shopping mall in Dongmen Market which boasts an excellent location and shopping environment. With supermarket, cinema, restaurants, and stores of clothing, cosmetics, electronics, jewelry, accessories & clocks, Sun Plaza has been a comprehensive shopping mall with numerous customers.

2. With promotion all year round, Dongmen Shoes Market has been the first choice for most buyers in Dongmen Pedestrian Street. The second floor of the shopping mall is mainly for suitcases, bags & women’s leather shoes, and the third floor is sports and leisure clothing and men’s leather shoes. 

3. 1234 Space Shopping Mall mainly serves the youth. Except the clothing stores like H&M, GAP, Initial, Ochirly, Belle, etc, there are also Coco Beverage, Tenfu’s Tea, Starbucks, bookstore, and other cafes and restaurants.

4. New White Horse Clothes Market mainly sells women’s and men’s clothes, meanwhile sells leather products and accessories. Most commodities are in low price, so the quality is not all satisfying.

5. Consumers can buy various mobile accessories, hats, shoes, clothing, and accessories in Xihuagong Shopping Mall. Remember to bargain when purchasing.

6. Jiulongcheng Square is a 9-storey comprehensive shopping mall. There are plenty of tattoo shops and nail salons in it.
 

Where to Eat in Dongmen, Shenzhen

Dongmen Pedestrian Street is a food paradise with snack stands, sidewalk snack booths, cafes, restaurants spreading all over the street. There are several food courts like Dongmenting and Miaojie. Dongmenting Food Court is the most popular food court where tourists can taste seafood, trotters, fried tofu, egg puffs, insect feast and various snacks from both China and abroad with an average cost of less than CNY 100 per person. Different from Dongmenting, Miaojie Food Court is decorated more artistic and classical. And the people there is less, the environment is better and quieter.
 

What to Visit in Shenzhen Dongmen Market

Century Clock is in the center of the street. Every New Year’s Eve, the bell is knocked to bless a better future. Siyue Academy in cultural square is in southern Chinese architectural style. It is free of charge for tourists and always holds photography exhibitions. Shenzhen Worker’s Cultural Palace in Xinyuan Road is one the oldest park of the city; there is an amusement park, an artificial lake and a skating rink in it.
 

How to Get to Dongmen Market

1. Take metro line 1 or line 3 and get off at Laojie Station.
2. To get to Dongmen Market, tourists can take city bus to Dongmen Bus Stop by line 1, 102, 113, 211, 307, 351, 369, N7, N19, M190, M239, M403, M403 and B909.

What is the best method of using public transport to travel from Jordan MTR station to Shenzhen?

Take Tsuen Wan Line to Mong Kok, transfer to Kwun Tong Line to Kowloon Tong, change to East Rail Line to Lo Wu, go through the immigration check there to Luohu metro station to take Shenzhen metro line 1 to Guomao, exit B out, walk eastward for 100m, then walk northward to for 200m to the hotel.

Are their merchants and shopping available to tourists in the Dongman area? Is it safe for tourists?
