Dujiangyan Irrigation System was built during 256-251 BC or so under the direction of Li Bing, the local governor at that time. The system is mainly composed of Yuzui Water-dividing Dike, Feishayan Spillway and Baopingkou Water Inlet, to divide Minjiang River into the Inner and Outer Rivers. It has played the roles in flood control and field irrigation for more than 2,000 years. Since then, Chengdu Plain turned into the land of abundance.

The great Dujiangyan Irrigation System condensed the wisdom of the Chinese ancients, identified as a world cultural heritage. There are some historical sites, such as Erwang Temple to worship Li Bing by his futurity, and Anlan Cable Bridge, the famous ancient bridge stretching across both the Inner and Outer River of Minjiang River.
In addition to admiring the grand and old irrigation system, you can enjoy the beauty of scenery, as Dujiangyan Irrigation System was constructed with a harmonious combination with the nature. You can climb up the step ladder on Yulei Hill to reach Yulei Tower on the top, from where you can have an overall view of the whole Dujiangyan Scenic Area.
If you go to Dujiangyan on Qingming Festival, you would catch the water festival held since over 1,000 years ago to commemorate Li Bing for building the conservancy project that has benefited local people.
