Huanhua Stream Park
Huanhua Stream Park, also known as Huanhuaxi Park, is the largest urban forest park in southwest Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. Located between the 1st Ring Road and 2nd Ring Road, it covers an area of 323,200 square meters (386,544 square yards). Neighboring Sichuan Museum to the east and Thatched Cottage of Du Fu to the north, the park forms a natural link between the two top attractions of the city, offering a wonderful wetland and green space, and therefore gains the reputation of the only 'five-star park' in Chengdu.
With pleasant natural scenery, Huanhua Stream Park consists of Wanshu Garden, Plum Blossom Garden, and Egret Garden. There are several scenic spots doting the three gardens, including Wanshu Hill, Canglang Lake, and Egret Island. Boasting a close link with the Thatched Cottage of the famous ancient poet Du Fu, the park thus features a special connection with Chinese Poetry. Wanshu Hill is an artificial hill created in the southern part of Huanhua Stream Park, with an area of 65,000 square meters (77,739 square yards). Together with the lawn and flowers, the beautiful scenery of Wanshu Hill makes visitors feel relaxed. Not only can they enjoy the natural view of the park, but also admire the traditional bamboo processing craftworks at Wanzhu Square, which is a good place to visit during the night. Resting in the glass houses at the square is a great way to enjoy the beautiful night scenes. Canglang Lake lies in the center of Huanhua Stream Park, with a water surface area of 43,000 square meters (51,428 square yards). It is composed of a square linking to the Thatched Cottage of Du Fu, and an island where the Huanhua Hall was built on it. The natural landscapes comprise of willows, rockeries, and statues along the bank. Visitors can take a rest or have fun around the lake. Egret Island lies in the north of Huanhua Stream Park and covers an area of 82,000 square meters (98,071 square yards). The island is mainly covered by wetlands, making it an ideal living environment for the egrets. The island is divided into several divisions, namely the inducing area, viewing area, feeding area, and isolation area. The viewing area has a large stretch of high forest, but visitors can stroll along the river to see the beautiful egrets. One may go up the hill to the Egret Viewing Pavilion built for the purpose to watch the egrets flying in the sky. Lies north of Huanhua Stream Park is the Poetry Avenue, which connects the Huanhua Stream Bridge with the south gate of the Thatched Cottage. It is about 388 meters (424 yards) long.
