Bangchuidao Scenic Area

9 kilometers (5 miles) away from the center of Dalian City, the Bangchuidao Scenic Area is located east of the Binhai Road. It consists of the Bangchuidao Lido (or beach), the Bangchuidao Islet and the Bangchuidao Hotel. This scenic area is a famous seashore resort combining marvelous views of the hills, sea, islet and beach.
 In between Dalian Beach and Tiger Beach lies the 500-meter-long (550 yards) Bangchui Beach, which is also called the Bangchuidao Lido. Because of the crystal clear water and great natural landscape, it’s regarded as one of the best lidos in Dalian City. The beach consists of a fine sand area and a pebble area. Visitors can walk barefoot in the former part, and search for interesting pebbles in the latter part. The Bangchuidao Lido is about 1.5 kilometers (1 mile) from the entrance of the Bangchuidao Scenic Area, and people can take an eletric cart to get there. The one-way trip costs CNY 10 per person. Upon arrival, the three Chinese characters of the scenic area’s name, written by Chairman Mao Zedong, will come into sigh.
 About 400 meters (440 yards) away from the beach is Bangchuidao Islet, whose name derives from its shape. This islet in Bangchuidao Scenic Area is shaped like a Bangchui, a wooden club used by some Chinese people as a washing tool. It’s a small island, covering an area of 5 hectares (12 acres). About 53 meters (170 feet) above sea level, Bangchuidao Islet is 410 meters (450 yards) long and 120 meters (130 yards) wide. The hills are densely covered with flourishing pines and cypresses. The islet boasts steep cliffs, unusually-shaped rocks and beautiful wild flowers and grasses everywhere. It's one of the best places for photographers to shoot alpenglow, a reddish glow seen near sunset or sunrise on the summits of mountains. Visitors can take a boat to appreciate the impressive scenery more closely.
 The Bangchuidao Scenic Area enjoys a temperate climate, and therefore is a perfect summer resort. The famous Bangchuidao Hotel, also called the Bangchuidao State Guest House, is located here and covers an area of 87 hectares (about 215 acres). As the only national hotel in Dalian City, it functions as an accommodation for leaders and as a meeting place for large-scale important conferences, which have been held many times here in the past. Many famous national leaders from home and abroad such as beloved Premier Zhou Enlai, the first Premier of the People's Republic of China, have lived here. Now the hotel greets friends from all over the world with its excellent services and self-contained modern recreational facilities including a standard golf course, large tennis court, swimming pool and bowling alleys.

Apart from that, there are seven villas of different styles near the hotel. Villas No. 1 and No. 7 were built with a combination of Chinese and Western architectural styles. No. 2 and No. 6 are boat-themed and tourists can enjoy the sea scenery from the balcony. It’s like standing on a ship's deck. No. 3 is in Japanese style, and No. 4 and No. 5 are in traditional Chinese style.
