Nanjing Underwater World

Located next to Mei Hua Mountain of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum in Nanjing City, Nanjing Underwater World has over 200 species of marine animals, including more than 10,000 marine fish, 6 emperor penguins from the Antarctic, over 20 temperate penguins and 30 marine mammals such as polar bears, arctic foxes, dolphins and sea lions.

The whole aquarium covers an area of 32,000 square meters (7.9 acres) and is divided into two parts: the aboveground exhibition area and the underground exhibition area. The exhibition area on the ground is equipped with modern display cases of aquatic animals, and visitors can enjoy various schools of fish, huge turtles and fierce crocodiles while walking. The underground exhibition area is the most wonderful part of Nanjing Underwater World where tourists can enjoy the exciting show of people and sharks dancing together peacefully in the transparent tunnel.
 

74-Meter Long Glass Underwater Tunnel

The Underwater Tunnel is the most wonderful section of this aquarium. It is 74 meters (about 81 yards) long. Standing on a conveyer belt under the 180-degree curved transparent acrylic glass, visitors can hold a panoramic view of colorful coral reefs, rare marine animals, and fascinating undersea landscape, such as big turtles weighing more than 100 kilograms (220 pounds) and sharks more than 3 meters (9.8 feet) long.
 

Rainforest Area

Through the artificial technologies, this pavilion simulates the natural tropical forest scenes including jungles, towering trees and birdsong, providing visitors with a vivid view of the various colorful coral fish and freshwater tropical fish.
 

Dancing with the Sharks

In this area, the divers are surrounded by groups of small fish for showing tourists the most exciting performance - swimming with sharks.
 

Jellyfish Area

With the colorful illumination, Jellyfish are undoubtedly the most beautiful marine animal in the whole aquarium. They are just like spirits floating and glitter in the water.
 

Penguin House

It is home to 20 Humboldt Penguin from Peru, South America. They wear family tuxedos and greet all guests in a gentlemanly manner. Visitors can also watch 6 emperor penguins from the Antarctic.
 

Dolphins Show Hall

The dolphin performance of Nanjing Underwater World is the leading marine animal performance in east China. The hall covers an area of 1,500 square meters (0.37 acre) and has nearly 1,000 seats. Here you can watch the elegant and intelligent dolphins and cute sea lions perform the vivid and wonderful show.
 

How to get to Nanjing Underwater World

1. By Bus:
Take Sightseeing Bus No. 3, No.5 and get off at Mingxiaoling (Zixia Lake) Station.
Take Sightseeing Bus No. 1 and Tourist Bus Line to Nanjing Underwater World Station.
Take line 20, 315 and get off at Mingxiaoling Station.
 
2. By Subway:
Take subway line 2 and get off at Muxuyuan Station, and transfer to Zhongshanling bus line No. 1 to Nanjing Underwater World.
Take subway line 2 and get off at Xiamafang Station, and transfer to Zhongshanling bus line No. 2 to Nanjing Underwater World.

They have dolphin and sea lion shows at present, not sure with the schedule in August.
