Ginkgo Forest of Haiyang Town
40 km (25 miles) to the north of Guilin, Ginkgo Forest of Haiyang Town is famous for the unique ginkgo scenery. There are about one million ginkgoes with an average age of 30-50 years. Among them, over 170 thousand ginkgoes have lived for more than 100 years. The oldest one is more than 500 years. The highest one is called the ginkgo king, about 30 meters (98 feet) high, which could only be encircled by six adults.
When late autumn comes, Haiyang Town becomes a golden paradise. All the leaves are painted into golden yellow. With a soft breeze through the forest, some leaves couldn't wait to hug the mother earth; some are still in love with the branches. All those leaves together with the children playing under trees compose a wonderful fairy world.
Thousands of shutterbugs and painters come here to search for their inspiration. It becomes their dreamland for such a golden world is hardly to be seen through the whole country.
Every late October, the ginkgo leaves begin to turn yellow. Some days later during mid November, they would be the golden color. This beautiful color would last for half a month utill early December. So it's the best choice to visit Ginkgo Forest of Haiyang Town in mid and late November.

There are three places in Haiyang Town for you to enjoy the scenery. Datongmuwan Village and Xiaotongmuwan Village are the most famous. Two to three km (1.2-1.8 miles) from the town center, it's easy for you to get there. The ginkgo trees are dense in the two villages, attracting most of the visitors. Autumn is the slack season in Guilin, so it's easy for visitors to find a hotel. Farm houses are also available for you. If you are a photography enthusiast, you can choose to camp under a ginkgo tree.
