What to Expect

Historical Significance:Yonghegong Lama Temple is situated in the northeast corner of downtown Beijing. Given that Emperor Qianlong was born on this very site, and with two emperors having connections to Yonghegong, it came to be regarded as a “propitious place where the dragon (symbolizing the emperor) once dwelt in seclusion”. 

 

Cultural Connotation:It was transformed to a Lama Temple in 1744. And it is the largest Tibetan Buddhist temple in Beijing, it is rich in Tibetan Buddhist culture. The scriptures, statues, and rituals here provide a deep understanding of Tibetan Buddhism.

Sacred Buddhist Atmosphere: There are regular Buddhist activities and rituals in the temple, visitors can feel the solemn and sacred atmosphere of Buddhism and gain spiritual purification.

 

Covering a total area of 6.6 hectares, Yonghegong Lama Temple comprises 661 rooms, of which 238 are Buddhist halls. It houses numerous precious cultural relics on display. Meanwhile, it draws believers from every corner of the world to come here for visits and worship.
