LKA09-01: One-day Colombo Exploration

This morning, our driver guide will pick you up at your own booked hotel at appointed time and take you to enjoy your Colombo city tour package. Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, is famous for its beautiful beaches, bustling night market, majestic skyscrapers and splendid temples. Today's first destination is the Gangaramaya Temple, one of the most important temples in Sri Lanka and a must see place in Colombo. This exquisite temple is a perfect example of the blending of the architectural style of Sri Lanka, Thailand, India and China. Rather than a temple, it is more like a museum and contains a collection of Buddhist statue, relics, jewelry, huge elephants' tusks and some other antiques donated by Buddhist groups from all over the world. Among these, the most precious one is the hair of Shakyamuni Buddha that can hardly be seen. The serene and quiet environment in the temple will take you away from the hustle and bustle of the city. After that, we will go to the Colombo National Museum where you can learn about the traditional culture and history of Sri Lanka. As the oldest museum in Sri Lanka, it houses valuable cultural artifacts of different periods including various stone carvings, bronze statues, ancient weapons and other well-presented exhibits on the ancient kingdoms of Sri Lanka. It is well worth taking couple of hours to explore. The tour will end up with a visit to Galle Face Green, which is a local favorite for family outings, dating couples and leisure activities. You will have time to relax here and can take a stroll along the beach, taste the street foods, meet locals and admire the sunset. Visit the Pettah Market if time permits. LKA09-02: Side Trip to Kandy

Our driver guide will meet you at your hotel lobby in the morning and take you for Kandy day trip from Colombo. As an ancient capital of Sri Lanka, Kandy is a famous heritage site featuring the royal buildings and colonial-era architectures. En route, you will stop at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. It is a nice place for visitors who want to experience elephants up close. You can even touch or feed them as the elephants here are very friendly and harmless. You will see the baby elephants eating, playing and bathing in the river. Meanwhile, the trained elephants will show you how they work with their trunks. Next we will pay a visit to the Spice Garden, which is a delightful stop during your day outing packages in Sri Lanka.

Upon arrival in Kandy, we will transfer to the Temple of the Tooth, which is widely known for housing the tooth relic of Shakyamuni Buddha. The temple itself is magnificent and divine to visit. Devout pilgrims come here to show respect and make offerings to the relic. Appropriate dress is required (covered arms/shoulders, long pants or long skirts). On the way back, we will visit the Tea Factory where you can watch the whole process of making tea and sample the authentic black tea. After finishing the trip, our driver guide will take you back to your hotel in Colombo.
