Chinese passport renewal in Malaysia?
He don't need to make a appointment. But he'll need download the 中国领事 APP, register with real name, choose the Embassy and apply for renewal online first. When his application status turns to “待制证”, then he can make the payment and mail the materials required to the Embassy.
Usually about one month later, he will get his new passport. So it's suggested apply for the renewal before 03/04/2025.

The requirements depend on the purpose you go to Hong Kong. Requirements for traveling:
Passport; recent photograph; Proof of your financial standing; flight itinerary; Proof of the proposed leisure visit to Hong Kong (for tourism). The processing time largely depend on where you apply. It may take 4 weeks and longer.
